Our Dollarhide Estate Vineyard, located in northeast Napa Valley, was first planted with Sauvignon Blanc in 1982. The Dollarhide Ranch is a 1500-acre property in a secluded mountain valley with rolling hills, oak-studded knolls and seven lakes providing refuge for a wide variety of wildlife. There are 475 acres under vine here, and almost half are planted to Sauvignon Blanc. Today all of our Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from 25 vineyard parcels at Dollarhide. Each parcel is unique in its combination of vine orientation, soil profile, and trellising method. Dollarhide’s 2006 Sauvignon Blanc appears to show great promise in the grape growing world. It started as average year with moderate rainfall and mild temperatures throughout the winter months. In March, we saw the onset of spring shot up suddenly leading to temperatures well into the 80’s for over a week. This rapid heat spike caused vines to suddenly awake from their winter dormancy and grow rapidly. Temperatures soon fell back to normal, and the vines seemed to realize this and began growing at a more normal pace with more regular summer weather. Shoot growth was complete by mid-summer, allowing the vines to devote their scarce resources to above average yet balanced fruit loads. Harvest began at Dollarhide with Sauvignon Blanc from parcel 13, a steep, terraced hillside with a sunny north-south row orientation. We continued harvesting Sauvignon Blanc at a steady pace, block by block, under ideal conditions through the entire month of September. This Limited Edition Estate wine accounts for only 4% of all the Sauvignon Blanc harvested from Dollarhide in 2006. The blend is 100% Sauvignon Blanc carefully selected from seven parcels that were fractioned off and fermented separately in small, cool stainless steel tanks. Dollarhide is all about precision in varietal and vineyard expression. Aromas are bright and seductive with white peach, apricot, lemon zest, summer prairie grass, and lime. She hits the palate with a focused beam of ruby grapefruit, cantaloupe, boxwood, guava and key lime notes accented with crushed gravel minerality...a complete reduction to pure fruit elegance and style. 100% Chardonnay |
