History
St. Supéry’s most recent vineyard acquisition, Hardester
Ranch, which was purchased in May of 1999. Its location is very
close to our Dollarhide, in the Pope Valley, northeast of
Rutherford.
We prepared the land in late '99 and planted 96 acres of beautiful
valley floor soil in April. At Hardester there is a deep, long,
cool valley of approximately 35 acres ideal for high quality Sauvignon
Blanc. The remaining 76 acres were planted in Spring 2001.
This vineyard will be offer fruit that is a perfect complement to
the Dollarhide and Rutherford grapes. Its proximity to Mount St.
Helena gives deep, gravelly clay loam soil that is very uniform
and drains well. Perfect for great Cabernet! And the terrain is
quite different from Dollarhide, a fact that pleases our winemaker
Michael, as he will soon have an even wider array of grapes to blend
into our finished wines.
