Elu and Virtu Napa Valley

St. Supéry's Élu and Virtú: Elegant, refined blended wine, the best bodeaux blend of the vintage.

Since the first vineage in 1994, St. Supéry's red meritage blends have ranged from 62% to 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, not suprising given Napa Valley's reputaion for Cabernet. Our first Estate Petit Verdot went in to the 1998 blend, and in 2004, the fifth and final Bordeaux varietal, Malbec went into production. St. Supéry also makes one of the few white meritage wines available. We commmission a new "saint" illustration for every vintage, underscoring each blend's individuality.

2001 Élu Napa Valley

St. Supéry’s Élu, pronounced AY-lou means “elected,” and by extension, chosen or selected.  This is exactly what St. Supéry’s winemaker does when he assembles the best of each vintage’s Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec to create a sophisticated wine greater than the sum of its parts.

Awards/Accolades

92 points - Wine Enthusiast
From a producer that thoroughly understands Napa Bordeaux wines comes this classically proportioned blend, which is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. It impresses by its balance, elegance and richness. The blackberry and cherry flavors are enriched with oak, leading to a long and satisfying finish.

88 points - Wine Spectator
"Well-crafted, with ripe, rich complex herb, currant, cedar and sage, supported by firm, ripe tannins that, along with lively acidity, give it a structure and length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc."

Gold – San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

2004 Virtú Napa Valley

Virtú is St. Supéry’s artful blend of estate-grown Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. This truly virtuous wine exhibits flavors of pear and peach from the Sauvignon Blanc and crème and lemon meringue from the Sémillon that marry to create a critically acclaimed, food-friendly sipper.

Awards/Accolades

93 Points
The meritage category, an invention of the 1980s, was intended to create red and white California wines that honored the blending tradition perfected in Bordeaux over 200 years. Few vintners have been as successful, particularly with white meritages, as St. Supery. This white, a blend of sauvignon blanc and semillon, offers a seductive nose, aromas of stone fruit and spice, and a creamy texture backed with firm acidity. (San Diego Union Tribune; Sept, 14, 2005)

4 Stars - Restaurant Wine Magazine Full bodied, intensely flavored (apple, lemon grass, vanilla, roasted nut), and long on the palate, with a long finish.

Here’s a fancy wine. It’s made with full-blown Burgundian techniques, including barrel fermentation and sur lies aging. Every care was taken to preserve the fruity freshness. The peach, apricot, pineapple and honeysuckle flavors have a rich edge of smoky oak and vanilla, offset by fine acidity, and the finish is very dry. This is one of the best Sauvignon - Semillon blends out there. Editor’s Choice.
