Wine Spectator
When it comes to California wine, Napa Valley has a reputation for higher prices. Yet, when you look beyond blue-chip bottles sought after by collectors, there are still many outstanding examples that don’t break the bank. It may not seem likely to find Napa Cabernets under $100 or even $80. But it can be done! There are tasty, impressive rewards for exploring Napa Cabernets, including wines that represent excellent value, whether you’re sipping them on their own or with a rib-eye steak or braised short ribs. -Aaron Romano
ST. SUPÉRY Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Score: 91 | A tasty version, with a mix of açaí berry, plum and black cherry compote notes wrapped in sweet toast and licorice details. A light bramble accent adds energy on the fan-friendly finish. Drink now through 2032.—JM, Aug. 2024
Winemaker Tasting Notes
A deeply hued wine with aromas of Bing cherry, blackberry briar and hints of fresh cut pine, roast coffee, vanillin and toasty oak. Juicy and fresh on the palate with ripe plum, currant, anise, black olive and black pepper spice intertwined with cocoa and dusty fine-grained tannins. A classically structured Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with a lingering, opulent finish.
Vintage 2021
The growing season of 2021 saw extremely low rainfall followed by a warm summer. The result of this season was an early harvest and a light yielding crop. These growing conditions typically correspond to a high-quality fruit and low yields. Overall, 2021 did not disappoint, creating wines with opulent aromatics, terrific volume and flavors with tremendous persistence.
