A sixth-generation winemaker from Australia’s Barossa Valley, Michael Scholz was inspired to pursue winemaking by his grapegowing father (also called a vigneron in the Barossa) and his friends, including legendary Australian winemaker Peter Lehmann. When he arrived at St. Supéry in 1996, Michael played a key role in replanting many of the vineyard blocks to their ideal grape varieties, focusing on the classics of Bordeaux. St. Supéry makes all of its wines exclusively with sustainably farmed grapes grown on its Napa Valley estate. In addition to being Napa Green Certified, the winery received the prestigious California Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards Green Medal in 2018 for promoting biodiversity on its Napa Valley estate.
