In the glass, the wine presents with vibrant yellow and green hues. Aromas of mountain river wet stone and fresh lemon lime citrus blend with an ocean spray. On the palate, flavors of grapefruit, lime zest, and an everlasting fresh citrus. This is a beautifully textured wine, combining a rich mouth feel with minerality.
The growing season of 2021 saw extremely low rainfall followed by a warm summer. The result was an early harvest of exceptional quality and a very light yield typical to these growing conditions. 2021 did not disappoint, creating wines with opulent aromatics, terrific volume and flavors with tremendous persistence.
After achieving the desired flavors on the vine, the sauvignon blanc and sémillon were harvested in the cool morning hours in an effort to preserve the delicate flavors. The fruit was received in the cellar separately, where the grapes were pressed to tanks and immediately chilled and settled prior to fermentation. Fermentation occurred in separate concrete tanks exclusively at cool temperatures to maintain and enhance the natural flavors. The final blend was completed after 4 months of sur-lies maturation to capture the lovely fresh qualities and flavor intensity of the sauvignon blanc.
91 Points – “Plenty of tropical fruit here with lime, green mango and lychee aromas and flavors as well as some celery and fennel. It’s full-bodied with plenty of fruit and a flavorful finish. White pepper undertones at the end. Lots of sauvignon blanc character. Drink now.” – James Suckling, June 2023
