Tasting Notes

The 2023 Rosé is a vintage marked by a sense of freshness, thanks to the cool spell ushered in by the Mistral in early August. The wine is lively yet fleshy, with a pronounced acidic framework accentuating the saline flourish that is so characteristic of our wines, a true hallmark of Porquerolles. Very bold aromas on the mid-palate, with citrus zest and elegant edge of bitterness. Beautiful structure, with the Mourvèdre stretching out the finish admirably.

Winemaking

Porquerolles, an island. Cast off the ordinary. Even ashore, sea is always present, as the freshness of the spray forms a blissful union with the scents of the pine grove. The historic vineyard is bathed in light and derives its distinctive taste from the glistening crust of the thousand-year-old shales, on which the tender night sprinkles dew drops. Now owned by CHANEL, Domaine de l’Ile produces wine formed by island soil, loving sun and invigorating wind.

Accolades

92 Points, The Wine Advocate – “This estate, located on the Porquerolles island and owned by Chanel Group, produces delicate, perfumed rosé wines. The 2023 Cotes de Provence Rose Porquerolles evokes aromas of red berries, lime, flowers and crushed stones intertwined with maritime notes. Pure and precise, medium-bodied and perfectly balanced, it’s delineated with bright acids, a juicy core of fruit and a long, mineral and mouthwatering finish.” Y.C July 2024

91 Points, James Suckling – “A vivid, precise and delicious rosé with aromas of forest berries, red currants and stones. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity and character. Lively and well crafted. From organically grown grapes.” J.S. June 2024

91 Points, Jeb Dunnuck – “Another terrific rosé from this estate, the 2023 Cotes De Provence Porquerolles Rosé is a more mineral-driven, savory, almost salty effort that has beautiful darker framboise and strawberry notes as well as some spice, chalky nuances. I love its overall balance, it has medium-bodied richness, plenty of depth, and a clean, dry, salivating finish. It’s beautifully done and just about heaven with tapas.” J.D. August 2024
