Tasting Notes

2018 Dollarhide Estate Vineyard Malbec

This is a deep, dark red wine with purple hues. Aromas of black mulberry, ripe figs, dried tobacco leaves and a hint black licorice lead to appealing flavors of dark fruit, cassis, dried plums, kalamata olives and cocoa powder supported by fine-grained tannins.

2018 Dollarhide Estate Vineyard Petit Verdot

Inky, dark reds and purple hues present this wine.  Aromas of subtle yet intense blackberry and slight briar, black pepper, and espresso intertwine with toasty oak.  Flavors of blackberry and black licorice are threaded with briar and roasted oak.  This tremendous wine has great density and length.

Winemaking

2018 Dollarhide Estate Vineyard Malbec

The fruit was hand harvested in the cool morning hours and brought to the winery in half ton bins. First, the clusters were first sorted by hand. The fruit then ran through a small de-stemmer prior to the individual berries being sorted to ensure that the most ideal grapes were chosen.  These berries were delivered to a fermenter where there was a period of resting on skins. Warm fermentation temperatures were encouraged along with gentle cap maceration to achieve the desired color and structure for the wine before an extended maceration time on skins prior to final pressing. The wine was transferred directly to barrel for 19 months of maturation.
