Napa Cab Crusta

Recipe Courtesy of Mani Gonzalez, CS, WSET III

Single Serving

*Crusta cocktails are drinks that have a spirit (or 2), lemon juice, aromatic bitters, and it’s signature sugar crust rim.  The original recipe dates back to the 1840s or 1850s, here’s my take.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ -oz St. Supéry Cabernet Sauvignon
  • ½ -oz Andrew Jackson Dollarhide Spirit of St. Supéry
  • 1-oz moscato syrup
  • ¼ -oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura/Aromatic bitters
  • 2 (meyer) Lemons (for rimming and garnishing)
  • Lavender sugar (for rimming)

Instructions

  • Chill red wine glass in advance
  • Wet the outside of the rim of chilled wine glass with lemon wedge.
  • Rotate the glass through the lavender sugar, coating only the outside of the rim
  • Carefully peel rind off lemon in one long spiral strip, cut in half, place in rimmed wine glass
  • In shaking tin, add all ingredients expect garnish and sugar
  • Add ice and shake well
  • Add ice to rimmed wine glass
  • Double-strain into wine glass
  • Garnish with lemon wheel
