St. Supéry Chronicles Harvest 2026

A Quarterly Newsletter

It is officially autumn and nearing the final pick of what is one of the earliest harvest seasons on record for much of Napa Valley. Following an unseasonably warm spell during the month of March, the growing season accelerated throughout the relatively mild summer with our first pick of sauvignon blanc arriving in late July. It was a whirlwind of activity from that moment onward for our vineyard and winemaking teams. Fruit quality is exceptional high, and the cellar is filled with aromatic fermentations. The white wines are vibrant with firm acid structure, while the red wines are showing deep concentration and purity of fruit at this early stage of development.

“Every season is different and 2026 was shaped by extended heat during the month of March. It really pressed the vines to awaken early but we had a fairly mild summer and harvest. It provided long hang time and gave us the ability to pick without worry of rain or heat spikes. It has been a delightful harvest season, just a bit early. This vintage has the potential to be quite fabulous,” noted Michael Scholz, Vice President of Winemaking & Vineyards.

The season of gathering has also arrived, and the winery recently introduced a new Cabernet Sauvignon Library Tasting focused on its Rutherford Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. This is rare opportunity to taste four vintages of this wine and decide which of your favorites should be cellared longer or opened during the holidays.

October is Merlot Month

Celebrate with 2021 Rutherford Estate Vineyard Merlot

Tasting Notes: A powerful, full-bodied Merlot with distinctive sense of place in its opening aromas of black plum, black raspberry, mocha, earthy spice and toasted oak. The palate is filled with concentrated layers of black cherry, dark chocolate, clove and toffee notes.

93 Points, James Suckling – “Powerful, full-bodied and nicely packed with tannins, this wine is concentrated and structured enough for further aging. Dark cherries, toasted oak and dark chocolate are wrapped in a firm texture.”

91 Points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate – “One of my favorite bottlings from St. Supéry this release cycle is their 2021 Merlot Rutherford Estate Vineyard. Black cherries pick up hints of cedar and vanilla, but the variety’s ebullient fruit takes center stage on the nose and palate. It’s medium to full-bodied, supple and silky-textured, with a lingering, harmonious finish.”
