March 2024

James Suckling and Jim Gordon conducted a recent tasting of Napa Valley wines, awarding the first scores for a selection of St. Supéry’s 2021 red wines and recently bottled 2023 white and rosé wines.

2021 St. Supéry Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
91 points – This firmly textured wine combines a fresh fruitiness with ample tannins and chocolatey vanillin accents. Full-bodied, ripe… on the palate.

2023 St. Supéry Napa Valley Estate Rosé
90 points – Mellow, fruity… with aromas of frozen raspberries, apricots and warm herbs. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity. Vivid and crunchy with a fruity finish. Drink now.

2023 St. Supéry Dollarhide Estate Vineyard Muscat Canelli
90 points – Floral, peachy and sweet, this light-bodied wine is a good choice for a picnic and for cheese pairings. Jasmine blossom and yellow peach aromas lead to sugary, ripe melon flavors on a soft texture.

2023 St. Supéry Napa Valley Estate Sauvignon Blanc
90 points – Crisp and crunchy, with slice green melon and citrus character. It’s medium-bodied with… a lively finish. Nice as an aperitif. (Feb, 2024)

2021 St. Supéry Dollarhide Estate Vineyard Malbec
92 points – A firm, pulpy and focused malbec with notes of dark cherries, red plums, dark plums, dried herbs, bark, cloves and baking spices. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins. Textured with a juicy core of dark cherries mingling with the herbs and spices on the mid-palate. Chewy and focus on the finish. Try after 2026.

2021 St. Supéry Rutherford Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
93 points – Beautifully polished and generous, this wine is relaxed in red and black cherry flavors, soft tannins and rich oak accents of vanilla, cocoa and cinnamon. Full-bodied, quite ripe and broad in feel. Drink or hold.

2021 St. Supéry Rutherford Estate Vineyard Cabernet Franc
94 points – A dark-fruited and minty red with blackcurrants blackberries, grilled herbs, walnuts and hints of bark. Full-bodied, vivid and succulent with chalky yet super polished tannins that are a little chewy but smooth. Long and fresh. Drink or hold.
