It’s Out There: Artists and the Natural/Human Environment Gallery Exhibit

Opening Reception March 23rd 4-6pm

St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery and Paul Thiebaud Gallery are pleased to present It’s Out There: Artists and the Natural/Human Environment, a group exhibition featuring the works of Jeff Bellerose, Stephen Coyle, Eileen David, Arthur Okamura (1932-2009), Celia Reisman, and Suong Yangchareon at St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery in Rutherford, CA. Opening March 23, 2024, with a reception from 4-6pm, each of the exhibiting artists shares their unique perspective on the human and/or natural environments in their paintings, variously conveying feelings of awe, wonder, nostalgia, transcendence, and spiritual resonance, to name a few. The exhibition will be on view through February 28, 2025.

The human world is a constructed realm of buildings, streets, and ordered space, and has been a prime source of inspiration for Eileen David, Celia Reisman, and Suong Yangchareon. San Francisco based, Eileen David’s paintings of her home city depict the dramatic perspectives found atop the rolling hills of the city, as well as the captivating views found on the bay waters surrounding it. Suburban house-scapes have long been a subject of interest for Philadelphia Based painter Celia Reisman, with their complex geometries and expansive perspectives. Suong Yangchareon’s paintings of bygone roadside cafes, and historic buildings reveal his
fascination with rundown, disused, and abandoned buildings, some of which only exist now in the memories of those that knew them firsthand.

On the flip side, the natural world with its irregularity and organic beauty, has long been a source for Jeff Bellerose, Stephen Coyle, and Arthur Okamura. An avid hiker in his younger years, Jeff Bellerose’s views of the coastline and mountains employ a dazzling light to convey the profound sense of wonder experienced while exploring nature. Stephen Coyle’s expansive views of the National Seashore on Cape Cod convey calm, reflection, and transcendence about the passage of time. Lastly, Arthur Okamura’s Zen infused canvases conjure a sense of the spiritual through their deft brushwork and serene color palette.
